They Changed Their World-Part 1 - Friday, May 16, 2008
He testified concerning him, 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.' Acts 13:22 NIV
David was still a very young man when he took some food to his brothers who were in the Israelite army preparing to fight the Philistines. No one quite expected the next thing. A huge man, nine feet tall, his body clothed in frightening armor, came forth that day and told the Israelites to choose someone to fight him. If the giant won, Israel would become their slaves. If Israel won, the Philistines would be slaves. No one moved. The fear was obvious. Then one man stepped out. David said, "I will go." Saul, the king, said, "You are not able to fight him, you are only a boy." David said, "When I was watching the sheep, a lion and bear attacked and the Lord delivered me, and He will deliver me now. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's." Why did the whole army of Israel stand immobilized that day? Why did only one teen have the courage to stand up and believe that God could deliver and help him?Faith is a choice. David knew that he had practiced with the sling shot for many days. He could probably hit a twig from a distance. His choice was not foolish, but based upon fact and the confidence that God could help him hit the mark. Yes, it is always easier and safer to remain in the crowd and compromise. It's natural to avoid risks, but you never see the power of God that way. David was a young man who changed his world. God said of David, "He is a man after my own heart." You can change your world too.
